A man of North African origin has been attacked as part of a demonstration organized by the extreme-right in Pontivy, Brittany, after the attacks on Friday night in Paris, which left 129 dead and over 300 wounded.
The mayor of Pontivy, Christine Le Strat, explained that the demonstration was planned for weeks “against immigrants and foreigners” and that although she thought better to ban after the attacks in Paris, finally left to be held, late on Saturday.
Riots erupt soon. “A man of North African origin was hit by the crowd. Six people threw him to the ground and vented. It was heartbreaking, we couldn’t help,” told a witness.
In addition, several people had to take refugees in their houses to avoid those people being lynched. “We’ll kill you, you should’nt be here,” the protesters chanted. “It was terrible,” said the witness. “I’ve never seen anything like this in Pontivy. The songs of hatred echoed through the streets. My blood froze,” told another.
